Practical questions and preparation tips to help you decide what needs cleaned and what to ask before the work begins.

What should you include in a cleaning estimate request?

Start with your address and a list of the surfaces you want cleaned. “The whole house” can mean different things to different people. Be specific about siding, porches, steps, gutters, windows, the roof, and any detached structures.

Point out the areas that bother you most. Mention known damage, recent painting or sealing, difficult access, and any timing constraints. Photos help explain the project, but they may not show every detail needed for an estimate.

Cleaning is not the same as repairing

A dark mark may be buildup, discoloration, wear, or damage. Cleaning can address some causes, but it does not repair a roof leak, replace damaged siding, or restore a worn finish.

Ask what result is realistic for your surface. A useful estimate should explain what is included and any concerns that may need attention before cleaning.

How to get ready for an exterior cleaning appointment

Confirm preparation instructions for the actual work. Ask about closing windows and doors, moving vehicles or patio items, securing pets, and providing access through gates.

Let the cleaner know about fragile items, delicate finishes, electrical equipment, or damaged areas. For businesses and occupied properties, coordinate access and the times when people use the work area.
